Traditional Lead Climbing School (TLCS) teaches climbers to be a Second climber for sport or traditional routes (single or multiple pitches). It is designed to be taken after Rock Seconding School or Basic Mountaineering School. The class has four evenings of lecture and hands on practice at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden. The evenings are followed by outdoor field days where you practice your skills in real climbing situations. Everything comes together at the end of the class on a multi-pitch traditional climb with your instructors.
Students must have their own basic climbing equipment- harness, helmet, shoes, belay device, etc for this class. Students do not need to purchase protection gear in order to take TLCS.
The cost includes admission into the indoor gym (Rock’n and Jam’n North).
1) ability to follow 5.9 comfortably in the gym and/or 5.7 outsude
2) Rock Seconding School (RSS) or Basic Mountaineering School (BMS) or equivalent skills- tying into a harness, communication, belaying a leader, ascending a rope, rappelling, etc. The skills acquired in TLCS are anchor building, gear use, placing protection on lead, climbing vectors, fall factors, and more.
You must be approved by the School Director to sign up for this course. With approval you will receive a code to enter when registering on the CMC site for the class.
